Prof.Sutheeshna Babu. S

In February 2007, Prof. Sutheeshna Babu. S (PhD- JNU) took charge of the Institute as Nodal Officer. He holds MPhil and PhD degrees in tourism from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Prof. Babu has been a Research Fellow of UGC/CISR during 1990-95. Attended many Fellowship programmes in tourism and notable ones are Govt. of India-Republic of Cyprus joint fellow programme in Tourism Planning and Development at Cyprus; UNWTO certificate holder in ‘Tourism Taxation & Statistics’. He is also the editor for International Journal for Tourism & Travel.

For last two decades, he has been lecturing at the post-graduation level programmes in tourism besides undertaking MDP’s/EDP’s on wide ranging topics in tourism. While specializes in the beach tourism planning and development, his other research interests include tourism policy, leisure watersporting and SMTE development. He is serious researcher and has many publications like books, international journals monographs etc. Recent being Tourism Development Re-visited: Concepts, issues and paradigms (Response Books- Sage Publishers) & Coastal Tourism: Development patterns, issues & challenges (Lambert Academic Publishing, Germany). Since 2013, Dr. Babu is also the editor for the International Journal of Tourism & Travel.


He is a lead researcher and authored many reports of advisory/policy-based in nature. Notable ones are ‘Problems & Prospects of Accessible Tourism in India; Analysing Factors Responsible for Slow-down in Tourist Arrivals in India & Evaluating Hunar-se-Rozgar-Tak Scheme of Govt. of India (For Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India); ‘Study on Feasibility of Leisure-watersports in Jammu Region’; Assessment of Safety Infrastructure Requirements and Visitor Management Practices for the Beaches in Kerala’ and Study on Feasibility of Leisure Watersports in Kerala.
