RESEARCH

The reputation of the institute owes to not only for its uniquely designed courses, pedagogy, management development programmes, more particularly the informal sector, but a team of qualified and highly motivated faculty having diverse disciplinary background. The Institute is proud of its academic environment, which gives ample freedom to the faculty in their pursuit of academic excellence and their research works are focused on fostering the knowledge creation, which can benefit the tourism business and equally the socio-economic development. The knowledge created by the faculty also contributes to enriching the course content and its delivery.

The core of research at IITTM is inter-disciplinary, linking the business world with the fast evolving technological and social world. The research is conducted with the objective of fostering socially and ethical based business practices. The major research group are Marketing Management, Tourism Policy and Development, Communication Management and Environment Management. The project funding/sponsorship come from various sources like the government, PSU’s and other agencies like AICTE and UGC.

CONSULTANCIES

Institute has a dynamic and competent Research and Consultancy team and takes up studies of varying nature. These include policy documents, impact and feasibility studies, market research and potential assessment. Institute charges requisite fees to carry out the study. But, the quantum of the fees is decided on the basis of the nature of the study and quantum of work involved.

Watersport potential surveys 

Assess potential for watersports development and tender necessary advices. Main beneficiaries were the government agencies viz. Kerala, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Pondicherry, Andaman, Karnataka, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, West Bengal Andhra Pradesh & Sikkim. Private entrepreneurs have also got similar studies done for their ventures.

Water sport equipments procurement 

Institute performs advisory roles for procurement of quality water sports equipments for the government bodies. Some of the agencies for which Institute tendered advises were Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, A&N Administration, Lakshadweep, Bihar, Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army, Coast Guard and similar institutions have also been approaching the Institute for its views from time to time. 

Feasibility Studies for Water sport Operations 

The feasibility studies cover different aquatic environment viz. inland system like lakes and river and the sea coast. 

Studies on Beach Safety and Management

The use of beach for leisure and recreation is growing exponentially and there are incidents of drowning and deaths, mostly attributed to lack of understanding about coastal environment and the danger of killer waves.

Institute undertakes studies on different aspects of beach safety and visitor management to provide suitable mitigative mechanisms.
